The Dead South: Concert Video Production for a Unique Folk-Bluegrass Band

The Dead South is a Canadian folk-bluegrass band from Regina, Saskatchewan, celebrated for their distinctive blend of bluegrass instrumentation and punk rock energy. Since their formation in 2012, they have gained international recognition for their high-energy performances, darkly twisted lyrics, and a style that resonates with a dedicated global fanbase.

I had the opportunity to produce three concert videos for The Dead South, each uniquely styled to reflect the band’s distinctive aesthetic. Filming took place at their concerts in Hamburg and Berlin, where I used multi-camera setups to capture the energy of their live performances. To add depth and authenticity, I also gathered backstage footage and documented their journey on the road between cities.

To stay true to the band’s raw and edgy style, I shot much of the material handheld, employing a high-contrast look with minimal color grading. This approach perfectly mirrored their unique sound and visual identity, delivering compelling videos that connected with their audience.
