Video Production for Emika: Music Videos, Editing, and Creative Direction

Emika, a British electronic musician based in Berlin, is known for her innovative blend of classical music and electronic production. A classically trained pianist and composer, she ventured into electronic music with her self-titled debut album, released in 2011 via Ninja Tune, which received critical acclaim.

Over the years, Emika has expanded her music style to include genres like dubstep, trip hop, electronica, techno, synth-pop, and contemporary classical music. She has collaborated with a range of artists and contributed to various film, advertising, and music projects. In 2015, she founded her own record label, Emika Records, to further establish her artistic vision.

In 2018, Emika approached me to edit the music video for her track “Close,” shot by Dub Lion during their travels. The video explores themes of intimacy and inner conflict, and I had creative freedom in the editing process. I used various contrasts—luminance, color, sharpness, and speed—to visually represent the song’s exploration of emotional and personal strife.
